Hairstyles by Carson

Seems there comes a time in almost every child's life when they decide that they are capable of cutting their own hair. Well, that day was yesterday for Carson, right in the middle of his first grade class. His teacher was not too thrilled, nor are his parents. He was covering it up with his hand when Christina picked him up. I thought that was kind of funny. He's lost "scissor privileges" at school and has to seek special permission if he needs them. Anyway, he seemed to realize it was a mistake and he says he won't do it again. I told him that when I was in 5th grade, I cut off a good chunk of my eyebrow, also during school. I probably shouldn't have said anything. If he ever does that, we'll know who to blame.

Here he sports the new gap in his bangs, along with a somewhat guilty, embarrassed smile...

This is his photo at the time of booking, after Christina took him to a neighbor who specializes in "1st grade hair incidents"...
We'll be going with this style for the time being. His hair has never been this short...

Labor Day Hike

We hiked the Willow Heights trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon today. It was a fun hike, not too long, though steeper in some parts than we expected. The boys did great for the most part and didn't complain too much. The scenery was beautiful.

Carson sitting on the trail marker...

Christina and Elijah making their way up the trail. We had to carry him once in a while...
Clarissa had the easiest way up the trail. Oddly enough, she complained most the way up because she wanted to get out and walk...

The trail winds through an aspen tree canopy. That kept it cool...
Carson and Elijah making their way through a clearing, almost to the lake...
It took us about an hour to get to the lake. Can you spot Clarissa?

Lunch by the lake...
The funnest part for the kids (as usual) was throwing rocks into the water. Even Clarissa kept picking up tiny pebbles and tossing them in...

Carson taking it up a notch...
Looking south across the lake toward Solitude Ski Resort...
We should have had her toss her binky in the lake...

This is what happens with a self-timer family photo when your four year old get a little anxious and blocks out half the family. At least he smiled...

Starting School

The boys are now in school. Carson started 1st grade last week. He seems to be enjoying it, but it's a long day compared to kindergarten. Other than coming home a little tired and cranky some days, we don't hear any complaints. He likes his teacher and enjoys lunch and recess, though he offers few details, but that's not too unusual for him. We were able to go to back to school night and see his classroom and meet his teacher. Christina will spend some time volunteering in his class, so that will give us a little more insight into how he's doing.

This morning Elijah started preschool. He's been really excited and we think he'll enjoy making new friends and learning new things. He'll be attending twice a week for a couple of hours. He can be pretty talkative, so we expect to hear alot about what he's doing. He seems to enjoy getting older and doing some of the things that his older brother has been doing.

Clarissa will have a little more quiet time at home by herself, when she can play without being harassed on a continual basis by her brothers. She's growing up way too fast. She already wants a say in what she's going to wear, and she loves shoes. She's a little girl, no doubt.

Off to 1st Grade, day one...

He is, in fact, excited. Can't you tell?

She was grunting and pointing, telling us that she wanted to be in a picture too. We'll keep her around for a few more years...
